You will notice a range of “diffuser jewellery”  on the website; it is this range that started me on the creative journey and it has continued to evolve in sync with Matissa Designs. In my search for better health and more effective ways of achieving pain relief, I discovered how mind-blowingly awesome high-grade essential oils can be. I wanted to not just use the oils on my skin and internally for therapeutic effect but also be able to continue smelling their various aromas throughout the day. So, I went looking for jewellery that could diffuse the oils and act as portable aromatherapy. I found nothing I liked; the range was limited and somewhat tacky. So, I thought, “Why not make some myself, diffuser jewellery that I would love to wear?” It was at this pivotal point that Matissa was born.

Matissa has grown from covering the lounge room coffee table in all sorts of stones, wire, tools and the like, with the support and encouragement of a very patient and handy husband to this point of going live with a website!

The “diffuser” range is close to my heart. It has led a lot of friends and family members to conducting their own research into better health by “ditching” the toxic chemicals in their lives and “switching” to healthier alternatives. I am thrilled that some of my jewellery has a dual purpose, helping people look and feel great while also optimising the health benefits of essential oils.

Where did the name “Matissa” originate? It has so much meaning, and it is a continual source of motivation. Matissa is my middle name, after my maternal Nan. She was a true artist who I always admired; I felt so exotic and creative around her growing up. She was from Austria and had an accent that, to me as a child, was both musical and magical. My creativity and passion for art, I feel, is indelibly linked to her. She, too, was always researching natural health alternatives and throughout my childhood would send my family parcels of herbal drops along with her beautiful works of art. So, “Matissa” is a perfect fit, a name to which I am connected, a representation of that which I feel compelled and inspired to do.

As the journey continues more ideas bloom and Matissa expands. Needless to say, new creations will regularly be added to my collection. So, please drop back from time to time. 

Every piece of Matissa is hand-made by me with love and attention to detail – they are mostly one-off pieces so, if you really love something, buy it before it disappears.
